We are presently involved in working with government and various church organizational leaders in dealing with the after-effects of genocide in Central Africa. Over 3 million people have been killed through genocide since 1994 in Rwanda, Eastern DR Congo, and Burundi.
With the cooperation of the Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Reconciliation and church organizations, we have conducted professional training programs for counselors in the field of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. In Kigali, Rwanda, the program offered training for one man and one woman from each district of Rwanda (approximately 250 persons) for one week. The trainers were from the U.S. and were selected because of their special backgrounds of professional education and experience. (Resumes available upon request.) These professional people paid their own expenses and donated their services. All funds raised by Omega went for local costs of the seminars.
A similar conference was conducted in Goma, DR Congo, in 2005, with a follow-up session 6 months later organized and administered by local African leaders.
Our program is designed to bring emotional and spiritual healing to the many thousands of individuals suffering from PTSD as a result of the unbelievable horror they witnessed, extreme loss they suffered, and dire circumstances they have been left to cope with.
Other training and counseling sessions are planned for remote areas of this "Great Lakes Region" of Central Africa, and will be conducted as funds are available.
